ACTIVITIES AT BEGAWAN GIRI ESTATE
Above the Gatehouse lobby is The Shop with its wonderful cultural collectibles from around the Indonesian Archipelago and Asia. Guests can choose from delicate hand woven silks from Indonesia and Laos, 'batik' tulis sarongs, and embroidered Indian bags. Marble top tables, colonial chairs and Chinese storage units stand next to dainty spice cupboards and framed mirrors. There is authentic basketwork and pottery; precious china and stone carvings, Thai and Burmese Buddhas. Behind the carved doors are the colonial cupboards holding intricately designed jewellery with gold and stones, simple but sophisticated horn and mother of pearl. Necklaces and bracelets from Denmark, tiny Buddhas atop crystals set in gold and silver. YOGA MASTER Sri Jane Robinson, originally one of the Visiting Masters of the property's programme, now has come aboard as Begawan Giri Estate's Yoga Master. Having begun her yoga studies 15 years ago in India with yoga master Swami Ventesananda, Sri Jane has studied with various yoga masters throughout the world including BKS Iyengar, TVK Desikachar, Swami Sivananda and Patabi Jois. Sri Jane has also certification to teach yoga from India, the United Kingdom and Australia. Experience, knowledge and credentials apart, what Sri Jane most significantly imparts to guests is a sense of their own worth and empowerment. Classes with Sri Jane also include discussions about the various styles and principles of yoga, as well as other yoga related topics such as nutrition and chakra balancing. KUDUS SHOP Located in what was once the kitchen of this original Javanese house, The Kudus Shop has beautiful handcrafted silver jewelry, baskets, homewares, and sarongs. Designers are both Indonesian and European, with an emphasis on items that are unique to Indonesia, using materials and designs found throughout the Archipelago. Isabella Gardner personally sources all merchandise. THE AMPHITHEATRE The Amphitheatre is possibly the Estate's most versatile venue, perfect for intimate meals set up for two, informal meetings or group discussions, as well as all kind of cultural events.
In the evenings, performances such as the spectacular Kecak dance are regularly held on the Parkland, and often coincide with "sunset cocktails" where guests have the opportunity to mingle with one another before dinner. :: BACK :: |
